Whole boxes to buy

Rounds tiles up first, then calculates whole boxes. Site cutting and patterned layouts are not simulated.

Area covered by purchased tiles11.52 m²

Tiles = ceil[area × (1 + waste rate) ÷ area per tile]. Boxes = ceil(tiles ÷ tiles per box). A 50 × 50 cm tile covers 0.25 m². Cutting, grout width, patterns and reusable offcuts are not modeled. Check the site and product before purchasing.

Method and scope

Pieces equal area times (1 plus waste rate) divided by single-tile area, rounded up. Boxes equal pieces divided by pieces per box, rounded up again.

The box result is a purchase quantity, so extra pieces may remain after rounding. Area must be entered in square metres while tile dimensions use centimetres.

Cutting patterns, grout widths, decorative arrangements and reusable offcuts are not simulated. Check the product pack count and actual site layout before ordering.

What this helps you do

Estimate tile pieces and whole boxes for a measured area. Choose a waste allowance for your own layout.

What to enter

Start with area to cover (square metres), then fill the other relevant fields in the units shown. The field hints explain the required format and examples.

How the calculation works

Pieces equal area times (1 plus waste rate) divided by single-tile area, rounded up. Boxes equal pieces divided by pieces per box, rounded up again.

Worked example

A 50 by 50 cm tile covers 0.25 square metres. Covering 10 square metres with 10% waste needs 44 tiles, or 11 boxes containing four tiles each.

Understanding the answer

The box result is a purchase quantity, so extra pieces may remain after rounding. Area must be entered in square metres while tile dimensions use centimetres.

Scope and limitations

Cutting patterns, grout widths, decorative arrangements and reusable offcuts are not simulated. Check the product pack count and actual site layout before ordering.
