Worked steps

  1. 2 semesters per year; housing for 12 months and food, transport and other living costs for 12 months
  2. Each monthly cost × its applicable months × years
  3. Then add tuition, fees and one-time expenses

Tuition and fees use 2 semesters per year. Housing and utilities use housing months; food, transport and other living costs use living-expense months. If you still pay rent over summer, housing can be 12 months and living expenses 9. For variable utilities, divide the annual housing-and-utilities total by housing months. Waivers and scholarships are not deducted automatically and yearly cost changes are excluded. Replace examples with your own amounts.

What assumptions does this budget include?

Each year includes two semesters of tuition. Accommodation and utilities use housing months, while food, transport and other living expenses use their own month count; add one-time costs once.

Use 12 accommodation months when rent continues over summer even if living-expense months are nine. If utilities vary, divide their annual housing total by the housing month count.

Scholarships, fee waivers and annual price changes are not automatically included. Examples are editable planning assumptions rather than published Taiwan student averages.

What this helps you do

Separate tuition, accommodation and other living costs across university years. Housing months may differ from the months spent on campus.

What to enter

Start with years of study, then fill the other relevant fields in the units shown. The field hints explain the required format and examples.

How the calculation works

Each year includes two semesters of tuition. Accommodation and utilities use housing months, while food, transport and other living expenses use their own month count; add one-time costs once.

Worked example

TWD 25,000 per semester, TWD 5,000 housing for 12 months and TWD 8,000 other living costs for nine months total TWD 182,000 yearly. Four years plus a TWD 20,000 computer total TWD 748,000.

Understanding the answer

Use 12 accommodation months when rent continues over summer even if living-expense months are nine. If utilities vary, divide their annual housing total by the housing month count.

Scope and limitations

Scholarships, fee waivers and annual price changes are not automatically included. Examples are editable planning assumptions rather than published Taiwan student averages.
